How To Save Money On Gas Effectively

By Admin | March 5, 2010

There is a lot of controversy and debate nowadays on what the most cost effective alternative fuels are. For those looking for alternatives, it is advisable to put your time and energy into the gas saving efforts that are proven and available.

People are talking about a lot of different options but there is not yet a consensus on what the most cost effective device is. However, it is still necessary in today’s economy to save as much money on fuel expenses as possible. With the ever rising gas prices, every trip to the pump is stressful but there are ways to reduce this expense.

Hypermilling is an incredibly effective solution and it does not cost much to incorporate nor does it mean changing too much in the way of your lifestyle. You will, however, need to change a few habits in order to maximize your gas saving potential. Getting your vehicle in pristine shape is the key.

You will be able to save money in gas without having to purchase another vehicle or buy various gadgets. There are also other advantages when you maintain your vehicle in top working condition. Your car will last longer, allowing you to avoid the expense of a new one for longer. You will also be less prone to accident.

First, ensure you are changing the oil as recommended, every 3,000 miles or three months. Changing your oil regularly will keep your engine running smoothly and will make your car more efficient. If you take it to a place that specializes in oil changes they will even remind you when it is time to change it again.

Check your tires using a tire gauge and ensure there is continually enough pressure in them. Having them at the exact recommended air pressure will allow your car to get better gas mileage and reduce the amount of times you will have to refuel. Check this regularly.

Just like you should get regular checkups from a doctor, so too should your car get regular check ups from a mechanic. A tune up is advised at least every year, sometimes more if you do a lot of driving and put wear and tear on the car. Don’t wait until something breaks.

When you get your oil changed, they will likely also inspect your fuel injectors, air filter and oxygen sensor. Though having these things in less than perfect shape will not stop it from running, it will increase the amount of fuel it takes to drive your car. Check them regularly and replace them as needed.

If you can, drive as much as you can on the highways to maintain a consistent speed and reduce the amount of stop and go traffic you run into. Driving at the speed limit consistently will help reduce the amount of fuel you go through and will also give the added bonus of keeping you safer.
